Welcome to AAUW Silicon Valley, CA

We welcome you to the AAUW Silicon Valley website. AAUW has been in this area for nearly 100 years. Our branch began in 2023 with the merger of the Palo Alto Branch (est. 1930) and the Los Altos-Mountain View branch (est. 1953). We look forward to continuing the projects and activities of both branches and creating new initiatives that promote equity for women in the 21st century, in support of AAUW’s mission to advance gender equity for women and girls through research, education, and advocacy. To see more about our new national 2025 Strategic Plan: Empowering Equity Through Education see the link in the right column: View AAUW’s Strategic Plan.

Announcing our December event:

Join members to hear Meghan Kissell, Senior Director of Policy and Member Advocacy, AAUW
“Higher Education at Risk – How You Can Protect It”
To attend the Zoom event, register HERE by December 2
Wednesday, December 3, 4-5 pm

AAUW’s senior director of Policy and Member Advocacy, Meghan Kissell, will discuss in-depth how the current administration’s policies are reshaping higher education. How are recent policy shifts affecting admissions, Pell Grants, student loan forgiveness, student civil rights protections, and international students’ experiences? How do the actions on higher education compare to AAUW California’s Public Policy Priorities for women and girls? Meghan will share how AAUW is responding and explore ways that branches and individual members can help protect and strengthen our higher education system.

AAUW California supports equal access to quality public education for all students, including:
● Vigorous enforcement of Title IX provisions which protect against discrimination on the basis of sex in any educational programs or activities
● Adequate and equitable funding at all educational levels
● Increased support for and protection of STEM programs for girls and women
● Access to diverse staff and to curriculum that represents historically accurate information
● Funding adequate to support a strong infrastructure, and equitable access to resources, including technology
